Battery and charging
The Geely Remote Xinghan G Battery-Swap Tractor carries a 513 kWh battery of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells from CATL, close to the median of 563 kWh across the 25 electric semi trucks in our database. LFP cells hold less energy for their weight than nickel-based ones, but last more charge cycles and tolerate heat and fast charging well, which is why most heavy electric trucks now use them.
It charges by DC fast charging (800 V platform prepared for megawatt charging) and battery swapping, where a swap station exchanges the depleted pack for a charged one in about five minutes. Swapping keeps a truck working around the clock and is widespread on Chinese freight corridors, mines and construction sites, where swap stations serve whole fleets.
